About Me
Judith A. Yemma's Artist Statement
The visual arts have always been part of my life. I credit my mother, who was an accomplished painter and sculptor, with opening my eyes and mind to seeing and thinking in creative ways. I chose to continue my creative exploration through college, earning a degree in Fine Arts at San Francisco State University with an emphasis in painting and ceramics.
Photography is now my medium of choice. For me, image capture is a celebration of artistic potential. I am particularly attracted to curved lines and shapes, to the restful and serene, to the emotion and personality of an image, and to the potential of putting my own twist on an image. The subjects in my images, like my interests are varied but lean strongly to organic themes. I find inspiration in both simple and complex compositions - sometimes manipulating these compositions, or not.
I work in a variety of photographic processes from digital to film. I am drawn to historical processes that allow me to use hand-applies techniques that connect me to my roots as a painter. My editions of Cyanotype, VanDyke and Platinum/Palladium prints each have a unique look - no two are exactly alike. And, there are those single images where I use techniques that make them truly one-of-a-kind.
My photographs have won several awards, including First Place - Photography in the 2007 KVIE juried Fine Art Auction. I have received several Awards of Merit and Excellence in juried California Fine Arts Competitions and other recognized competitions. My work has been exhibited in venues and juried shows in the Sacramento region and beyond.
