About Me

K. Henderson Fine...'s Artist Statement

Born in Oklahoma, K. Henderson now calls rural New Mexico home. A classically trained artist, Henderson shows her works of realism in juried exhibits, museums and galleries across the country. Though comfortable painting figurative, western and American Indian subjects her current body of work is focused on still lifes

“I love painting food! It's something we can all relate to and understand. I know I've succeeded in my painting when someone tells me "That makes me so hungry!"

With every painting I create, I’m still fascinated with the idea of making a three dimensional object appear on a flat surface”

Henderson has attained national recognition with her work, has attracted a growing audience of collectors and has received numerous awards including over 100 Best of Show and First place awards in national and international juried art shows.

Henderson is a member of International Guild of Realism, Oil Painters of America and Signature Member of National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society

Porcelain Porcine - Work in progress

Porcelain Pigs, work in progress
I had a Need to create a painting with bone china or porcelain. My first thought was 'Teacups'. But as I browsed through my Cabinet of Curiosities I came across this sounder of pigs.

I draw the still life on a piece of tracing paper first then transfer the drawing onto the canvas or board.

Sometimes I do detailed monochromatic or Grisaille underpaintings and then build up the colors. This is a fairly monochromatic painting so I'm starting by blocking in the colors and the lights and darks.

This is how the painting looks at the end of Day 1. More tomorrow
