Stephen Fischer is an avid photographer who enjoys the adventure of getting out and capturing artistic landscape and wildlife images while exploring new places. Part of the enjoyment is being able to successfully capture beauty that comes so natural to the eye, but can be difficult to reproduce in a photographic image.  He started off in black and white photography over 30 years ago, doing his own processing, and made the switch to digital more seriously as the technology has improved with a renewed zest for the field.  He takes regular photographic trips that can involve multiple days with varying degrees of hiking and other means with  specific goals to photographic certain scenes or locations at the optimal times and weather to get the best light and imaging results.  

Stephen is based out of Sacramento California and as such, much of his work represents a specialty in some of the natural landscapes of the area such as the American River Parkway, the oak woodlands in the surrounding foothills, and some of the local wildlife preserves such as the Yolo, Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, and Cosumnes River Nature Preserve for bird related photography. On a broader basis, his photographic coverage spans most of the northern and central portion of California from the Pacific coast to the Sierras, White Mountains, and desert regions. Out-of-state coverage includes Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah.

As an engineer by profession, he tries to apply a more scientific and methodical approach for capturing some of his more unique images.  Use of astronomical data, topographical and satellite maps, and a compass are sometimes utilized to plan some of these shooting endeavors. Time is also spent studying the wildlife and natural history of the area in order to more fully appreciate what is being photographed.His philosophy with photo processing tools is to apply them to the limit that preserves the original view of the image, addressing shortcomings of the current state of the art with respect to digital capture (i.e. dynamic range and noise), while not introducing artificial content but preserving the original colors and lighting.  His software workflow is primarily based on the use of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop with various plug-ins to address noise and exposure control with a goal to produce high quality artistic results.
